A Small, Small Man

What is it about so many conservatives that makes them bitter, mean spirited and always angry?

The current crop of con's in Ottawa are obviously in perpetual attack mode, even through they are now the Government and that is not their role. I suppose it could be said they are still getting their "government legs", though I don't buy that, but what possesses a man, who has been in private life since 1993, to attack someone who is unable to defend himself?

If Mulroney is attempting to re-shape his legacy, he certainly blew it with this move. I guess Lyin' Brian is unable to define himself by his own accomplishments.

What a small, sad, bitter and dishonourable man.

  1. My comment on Cherniak's blog (yes, I do post there on accassion) was that Mulroney had to wait for Trudeau to die because he knew that his comments could never withstand the rebuttal from the man himself.

Justin Trudeau's comment was short and to the point:

"The late prime ministers' son, Justin Trudeau, issued a terse written statement to CTV: "This is not something that needs comment. People will see it for what it is."

    KNB I agree with you
    when someone like Brian
Mulroney for example attacks someone like
the late Pierre E. Trudeau or anyone else
for that mater they should do it while
    they are still able to
defend themself. This is wrong no doubt!!

Where I disagree with you is here: "The current crop of con's in Ottawa are obviously in perpetual attack mode, even through they are now the Government and that is not their role."
What are you talking about? They get attack
the Con's and they should just take it?
    Not be able to defend
themself? Come on please!! Fine you don't
    like their polices its
    your right this is what
makes this Country great. They should be able to attack with the
same vigor as the opposition does to them. Freedom of speech
goes both ways including the government.

Want to know mean spirited and always angry? When he doesn't
    get his way!! The
whiner PM Danny Williams in Newfoundland and Labrador. He is mean spirited and angry under Paul Martin's
    Liberals and of course
    under S. Harper's Cons.
    You are probably going
to say he is angry about the Atlantic accord fine o.k. i don't buy it. But what was his excuse under
    Paul Martin's Liberals
when he acted like a school yard child by refusing to raise the Canadian flag and
insulted all proud Canadians with that
    stupid move?
Now isn't that mean spirited and always angry? Or maybe not?

Mean spirited and always angry goes both
    ways.

  3. Gayle, Justin's statement was a good example of decorum.

It will no doubt, miff Mulroney, that the son of the man he hates, was more statesman-like than he was.

You'd think that by his stage in life, the ego would have shrunk a bit. Apparently not.

  4. Well, John, that was a pleasant surprise...your response about Mulroney.

As to the rest of your comment, you'll understand that I disagree.

The con's don't just defend themselves on policy, they launch attacks daily. The whole "not a leader" rant, is in response to nothing. Harper cannot make an announcement without taking a swipe at the Lib's.

Here's the deal, when you are in government, you govern. When you are the Official Opposition, you scrutinize and criticise the position of the government...as the con's did very well when they occupied those seats. The conservative website has more pictures and articles about Dion, than they do of their own accomplishments.

You see the link? Mulroney accomplished major feats while PM. His role as it relates to Apartheid, Free Trade (love it or hate it), Environment, etc. He should be able to rest on his laurels without attacking, baselessly another PM. So should the current government. If they believe in what they are doing, they should be able to make their case without attacking Dion.

Mulroney felt threatened by Trudeau, thus his need to paint him as he was not and so it is with Harper. He's painted a cartoon of Dion and that will fail.

  5. btw Gayle...I'm not one who would judge a person by where they comment. It's more about the subject than blogger, to me.

I have no axe to grind, with any blogger, whether I agree or don't.

Your comment about Mulroney's inability to withstand a rebuttal from Trudeau, is poignant.

    KNB thanks for this
complement: "Well, John, that was a pleasant surprise...your response about Mulroney."

    Well too bad we disagree
    with the rest of my
    comment thats life!!;)

  7. Scotian, if you are reading, I've saved your comment on Red's blog and with your permission, I'd like to repeat it here...with due credit to RT.

I'm more interested though, on your thoughts of my next post.

I'm, angry about this and I think most Canadians do not have a clue about what is happening.

Excerpt from an interview Rick Mercer did with "The National Review of Medicine".

"Stephen Harper appeared on your show last season, reading you a bedtime story. Do politicians only come on when they're doing badly in the polls? This government has never done well in the polls so I wouldn't know.

You know they're now the biggest spending government in Canadian history and they still can't get a move in the polls. Personally I think it's just because they're so bloody angry."

Actually, the interview was about his work with Belinda Stronach and the nets to aid in reducing malaria.

Johnny....you said others are angry too - look at Danny Williams - well, Danny Williams is a Conservative.

Brian Mulroney just blew it. His legacy will not be his pettiness, anger, vindictiveness, revenge - hmm....sounds like a "Steve" we know doesn't it?

"Johnny....you said others are angry too - look at Danny Williams - well, Danny Williams is a Conservative."

My point is that the left seems to like this guy Danny Williams. Dion brought his caucus
to NFLD to have a photo
up in which it backed fired on him. But you wouldn't get it.

""Stephen Harper appeared on your show last season, reading you a bedtime story. Do politicians only come on when they're doing badly in the polls? This government has never done well in the polls so I wouldn't know.

    The reasons why this
government is a big spender here they are:

    1) We have the war in
    Afghanistan.
    2) This government had
    to repair the military
where the Liberal government left our
    arm forces where we
    could have compare them
    to the boy scouts. The
    Cons. had to upgrade it
    with new equipment.
    3) They had to repair
    the fiscal imbalance
that the Liberal government was responsible for it.
    4) More cash for health care.
    5) Living expense goes up every single year
    its a natural part of
daily life. So governments expense goes up its life.
    6) This is also why
    government spends more
    here!
    I'm sure I could find
    more waste from the senate.
    7) We have the cash
    no deficits.

    How is Dion doing in
    the polls since you
    mentioned the Cons polls?

Dion too BUSY to pay a visit to our troops in Afghanistan
    the same brave people
    that protects us and
    Dion every day. Why
should anyone be surprised just look
at the Liberal record on the military!

Our arm forces is not a priority for him!!

  10. KNB:

Sorry I did not get back to you sooner, but I went away from Friday until late last night and was offline the entire time. As I have said before, I do not mind people using something I have written so long as they do not twist the context and are providing accreditation to me as the original writer, so go right ahead. I should add something regarding that post though, as I stated that no one really knew what the truth about the horrors was until the end of the war, and some have cited articles that were written then claiming that proves it was known. The problem with that reasoning though is that it forgets the amount of propaganda that was flying around from all sides in that war as well as how much the WWI propaganda regarding German evils were shown to be wildly exaggerated if not altogether false making many less than willing to believe the stuff being said regarding Germany in WWII about organized death camps. So the general public was unwilling to buy into such notions for such reasons despite some reports making it into NA media, which is what I was talking about in my original comment.

    Hope that helps.

  11. Thanks Scotian. I'll have to dig back, as I can't remember where it is.

I wan't sure if you were around or not, but didn't want to proceed without your permission. Thanks for the clarification on that though.

No worries about me distorting or not crediting...that's not my style.

No sweat, and I never thought you would, it is just a standard policy of mine. Way I see it once I write something online it is available for anyone to use as they wish (so long of course as they do not do so for the purposes of misrepresentation of my writing/thinking and/or authorship). If someone finds something I wrote worth using I am fine with that, indeed that is a compliment in my view.
