Governing in Canada - Looking backward

It seems to me that most countries elect a government that provides a vision that is meant to move the country forward.

Not this country. Nope. It seems that we elected a government that is fully committed to looking backwards and avenging old grudges.

Today's latest? Abolishing the gun registry. Oh, I know the Conservatives have been talking about this for years so it's not new, but what is new is that included in Bill is the directive that all data be destroyed. This, in spite of provinces having requested the information so they might develop their own registries.

The Fed's know the provinces wanted this information, so stating that they will be destroying it is quite remarkable. What's more remarkable though is a comment made by Vic Toews today. When asked about this provision in the Bill, he gave us the real reason. You see he wants the data destroyed so that no Federal government in the future could re-construct a registry. Seriously, he said that.

There you have it folks. The Conservatives are running this country, focused on revenge and settling old scores, not good policy.

I hope your rear-view mirror is clean. You're going to need it for the next 4 years.
