Who Voted For this Guy?

Seriously. I'd really like to hear from you, because for the life of me I cannot understand why you would want such a buffoon speaking for you in Ottawa.

If you follow politics, Mr. Del Mastro is pretty famous for stupid comments, but today? Well today he outdid himself.

He was a panelist on Power Play. The topic? The ridiculous banning of George Galloway. Not only did Del Mastro convolute the reason for keeping Mr. Galloway out of the country, he had to get his digs in on one of the other panelists, Martha Hall Findlay.

You know and I know the real reason that Galloway is being kept out is because he doesn't subscribe to the Conservatives black and white view of the world. Del Mastro said as much when he implied that Martha was turning against her Jewish constituents, being anti-Semitic in other words, in defending Galloway's right to come into the country. Yes, you read that right.

I hope everyone is very clear now on why the Conservative government is keeping this man out. I also hope it's clear just how low this government will stoop to play to it's base.

Additionally CTV, who posts clips of the show, seems to have omitted this particular segment, at least as of this writing. This isn't the first time I've looked for clips that are less than flattering to the Conservatives and have found them missing. Quelle surprise!

CTV, your cowardice is only second to that of the Conservatives.

That said, good on Graham Richardson who actually called Del Mastro on his comments.

Del Mastro is MP for Peterborough. His riding is near my riding and I have a Con MP (former cop, former Alliance). I watched to two of them interviewed on our local cable - not one original thought between them. PM approved partisan rhetoric. And, their trick? Interrupt, speak loud when the interviewer asks a question they don't want to answer.

It was like watching Dumb and Dumber.

CTV... and "journalism" are mutually exclusive terms... They are more "fluff" than facts... Always have been. The 10min repeating "Newsnet" "never live" broadcast. The CanadaAM show instead of real morning news... Just grab a coffee, and mellowly sleep your way through life with CTV...

What I find most telling, the Cons are so bereft of talent, people like Dean are rising up their ranks, getting a higher profile.

So which opposition party will raise a stink about it?

CWTF,

You're stuck, like a needle on a deeply scratched record.

knb,

Del Mastro is one of the least intelligent of the Cons. He shouldn't be getting air time nor have the position he does have. But the Harper party is so low on intelligent beings they have no choice. He needs to be booted in the next election & I think he will be.

Sandi, I know what you say is true, it's just so perplexing that people can vote for this.

I can only conclude that many vote solely for the party...no matter what.

WG, I agree with you, but look at their market share. It's almost tragic to think how what they serve up is digested in such numbers.

I know of course that many wade through and discard the nonsense, but I think it's also fair to say that many don't have the time to look elsewhere for facts.

Steve, that is the truly astonishing thing. The most recent 'promotions' are really incredible.

Goodyear is probably the worst. I remember listening to him in Committee last year, and he really isn't particularly bright, it was striking. This guy is their point man on science now, it just blows my mind.

cwtf, I guess you missed the part when I said that Martha Hall Findlay, a Liberal as you know, was making the point that Galloway was being kept out on free speech grounds.

Ignatieff and Layton have both said, if there is a security risk, show us the evidence. If not, then this is a matter of differing ideology and that is wrong.

penlan, yes indeed. Their benches are pretty thin when it comes to talent.

He's a damn good filibuster though Steve, lol. I should say effective. Good would imply that you'd be interested in listening to him.

If he's such a security risk, why was he allowed to speak at Columbia (according to Paul Wells) considering how security conscious the US is.

Karen said...

I guess the CPC believes that the US supports Terra!

However, I am disappointed to see no Liberal has so far protested this vehemently.

Do you honestly think Galloway support's Ignatieff's position on Gaza? Maybe that's why the leader of the Official Opposition has stood by, mute, instead of standing up for Canadian democracy. Then again, I could be wrong.

Did I say that?

To answer your question though, no, of course not.

I guess the follow-up is, do you?

Not what I've heard thus far, no. I thought I'd been pretty clear on that.
