The Incompetence is Staggering

WARNING: No Canadian should rely on their government to protect them if they travel outside the country. In fact, some should expect the government to actually work against them when they are in trouble. Those people are generally not white, Christian or born in Canada.

As predicted, it has now been proven that Suaad Haji Mohamud, is who she said she was and therefore has been stuck in Nairobi since May, for no reason at all!

This government, our government, did nothing to help her. In fact, they seemed to go out of it's way to prevent her from coming home.

The Canadian government later wrote to the Kenyan government informing officials there that it had done a thorough investigation and determined her to be an imposter and recommended that she be prosecuted.

Recommended that she be prosecuted? I have no words. I am beyond disgusted.

To all the idiots who commented here and elsewhere defending this joke of a government on this issue, you are as disgusting as the idiots you voted for.

Sadly, it's not quite over and while I don't know precisely what this comment means, it doesn't feel right. Is our government going to sit back and allow her to go through the court system in Kenya?

A spokesperson for the Canada Border Services Agency, which is handling calls on the matter, said the agency recognizes the DNA results but that it cannot comment further while Mohamud's case is still before the courts.

This story has not received nearly enough coverage.

Update - In spite the evidence, the government still isn't committing.

"cannot comment"...ya, right. There keeping mum on this until they can find a way to blame someone else.

I am so angry, disgusted and ashamed of our so-called government.

And, face it, Harper calls the shots. What a bunch of inept, partisan clowns.

I suppose the Tory trolls will come out with some sort of defence (there isn't any) saying someone spit on the sidewalk first or something.

Unbelievable.

Ouch. No more Mr Nice Guy, eh?

Saskatoon duck poachers are of more interest to the erudite citizenry of our hapless nation. Sad, sad, sad.

And the irony? What if she didn't have a child? What is she was adopted like me?

There are lots of people in this world with no blood relatives who are very much Canadian citizens. And they all should have rights too.

Probably. Can't interfere with the judicial process in another country now can we? Even if WE'RE the ones that caused it to happen, made it happen. How much more do we have to take from these goons?

Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade - has rarely shown interest in it's taxpaying citizens.

When Thailand was in turmoil Canadians had to rely on the generosity of foreign governments for assistance to exit.

This case takes, however, takes Canada to an all time low.

This person is in jail in Kenya for a reason, get a grip.

sjw, did you know that two of the duck "poachers", the James brothers. are from Toronto?

Why would I give a flying fuck where these morons are originally from? What is your point exactly?

Anon can you read? She's in jail because HARPER's goons suggested she should be prosecuted.

Idiot!

Karen, in all seriousness, I think you should consider implementing comment moderation for a spell. I'm all for exposing these twits for who they are and what they stand for, but these pueril (look it up, junior) comments really serve no other purpose than to supply irritation. I mean really, what's the point?

sjw, agreed and done.

This is just a disgusting and upsetting situation. Such a shame we have a government like this. I feel so sorry for Suaad Hagi Mohamud, hope she is going to be alright.

Suaad Hagi Mohamud, 31, has been stranded in Kenya since May 21, when a Kenyan official claimed she was not the same person pictured on her passport.

Kenyan authorities have been asked to drop charges against a Canadian woman who has been stranded in the country for nearly three months, her Toronto lawyer said Wednesday.

After going to the Canadian High Commission in an effort to prove her identity with numerous pieces of identification, Canadian officials voided her passport and sent her to Kenyan authorities for prosecution. She ended up having to face court proceedings and pay a bond to stay out of jail. Her travel documents were also seized.

Who are the Canadian High Commission officials that voided her passport?

How long have these officials worked at the Canadian High Commission in Kenya?

Should they face disciplinary action or be fired?

In 2002, Ross Hynes was appointed Ambassador for Mine Action by then Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham.

In June 2006 then Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter MacKay appointed him as Canadian High Commissioner to Kenya.
