Blame

What do you do if you are a government that has produced two Environment plans and they are both panned by the experts? Attack the experts of course!
What a ridiculous stance to take. I guess they realised that Canadians weren't buying what they were selling, because the Environmental Groups were not letting them get away with it. So, as has become the pattern for this government, anyone who disagrees with them becomes the enemy.
It's not a surprise that Heath would join the chorus as his current mission in life, is to destroy anything Liberal.
I don't know if the NDP is going to come out more strongly than that, but that would be a big mistake in my opinion. To be honest, I think this may just backfire on the con's. You can only whine about the whole world being against you for so long.
UPDATE : Steve has a deeper look at the article.

Have you noticed how every opinion is now framed within a partisan lens? I've watched over the years, how the Republicans have made every argument a political calculation, with real discourse the victim. The Conservatives and their "with us or against" mentality are starting to create the same environment. There is no objective criticism, it is all part of some underlying motivation, which turns discussion into incoherent mush.

Precisley Steve. That is what concerns me the most.

A country does not grow and move forward if it's leader strives to divide it.

The conservative movement in the US, crept in by stealth and I think Harper plans to ride on their coat tails. What is ironic, is that it is falling apart south of the border, yet he continues to plod along this doomed course. Thankfully, only 1/3 of the population is of that mentality and if I'm honest, I think it's less than that.

Objective criticism is part of our culture and I do not believe it will be rejected so easily.

That is my hope anyway. I think there are far too many thinking people in this country who simply won't stand for it.

I thought the environmentalsts were more Green/NDP type of supporters.

Oh well, when you don't have answers, blame the Liberals. This is wearing very thin and becoming extremely tiresome.

Time to grow up, act like a government and take responsibilty. If you can't, then you don't deserve to be government.

John, the link doesn't work but I'm familiar with the article.

You don't really expect me to take advice from Levant on the environment do you? He doesn't believe in climate change and for all I know, like his buddy Stockwell Day, he probably thinks the planet is 6000 yrs. old.

The day I listen to him about anything, let alone the environment, is the day I become a Harper conservative...in other words, never.

Hi KNB:

C'mon you mean to tell
me that the only people who
are credible are David Suzuki and the corrupt U.N. that is insane.

John

Karen said...

C'mon John, you mean to tell me that you only support idiot sycophants like Levant?

What I support is science, credible science supported by over 90% of that community.

Next you'll be telling me you don't believe in evolution.

Man, are you ever out of sync with your fellow Quebecers. That must be tough.

Where are you on gay marriage, abortion and all other so-con issues?

Karen said...

btw, I just wrote about your "man" changing his mind once again on Afghanistan. If you support his position, you support Dion's.

Tough one huh?

Hi

KNB i would like to answer your question on
gay marriage and abortion.
I'm pro gay marriage and pro choice i hope this is clear for you. I hope now that you can answer these questions i doubt it. First why did the ice age
disappear was it because global warming airplanes cars etc etc...? Second did you know that during the cretaceous period the planet was 10 degrees warmer then it is today is it because again planes cars etc etc...?

In the 70's the same people were all saying that we were going towards another ice age.
It's only 30 years ago not 30 million years.
Even the U.N. that you
hold in high regards says
if we all respect koyoto
the planet would still warm up. Did you also know that the sun is getting larger and larger
which would make the earth warmer.

About evolution yes i do believe in it.About being out of sync with my fellow Quebecers GLOBAL WARMING AND AFGHANISTAN
is the only 2 issues i disagree.

About Quebec we are more to the right then you might think. Example
you can't tell me the Liberal Party of Quebec
is to the left please hu just look at there
polices the budget it's not a left wing budget.
Next the ADQ your not going to tell me that they are on left are you ? I'm not going to tell
you it is as right as Alberta the only Left wing party is the PQ.They are the third party.

Has the Goverment in
your eyes done anything good maybe the economy hu ? If the economy was going bad would be all over it right? Since it's going strong mums the word are you so biased that you can't give credit where credit is do ?

Nice try.

The economy's doing fine, as has been doing just fine for the past decade.

Nice try i've seen that report before you did.You
don't accept me to believe the bbc a left wing public network controlled by the uk goverment please try to answer my question, becuase
i can bring you links that will say otherwise. Like i suspected you can't or wont answer them because it would put holes in your theory.
If you wont answer these
question then there is no point to continue our conversation on this subject. Don't give me links because i know you will only direct me to the links that supports your theory. I GOT TO ADMIRE YOU GREAT TRY !!
I will add this to the other questions. Why is it people like you and others they all say that if we don't do anything now it will cost us much more later on, but they never tell us what it will cost us if we would put KOYOTO to the fullest ,is it because if the truth came out the Canadian people would be outraged ? Answer all those question then we can go on with subject otherwise there is no point.

Aside from how ridiculous this comment is, no I don't expect you to believe them, but rather the scientists who have now proved it.

John, to be honest, there is no point in discussing this anymore. There IS no debate, period. The debate is over, the problem is real and if you are comfortable not believing it, so be it. Sadly, there are NO credible science on your side. All the deniers bring out scientists, who are NOT peer reviewed, not recognised as experts in their field. You've been sold a bill of goods, thankfully there are too few of you to make a difference.

As to the costs of Kyoto, no, Canadians would not be outraged. They do become outraged though when buffoons like Baird lie to them about the costs.

If the costs of implementation were going to put us into a recession, do you honestly think someone who wants to lead this country would propose that?

Anonymous said...

It's amazing to me that you can't answer those question! All you do is name calling and insults when people disagree with you. The only people who
are credible in your eyes
are the ones who agree with you right? Normally i would be upset but i'm not because it's ONLY A LIBERAL BLOG. JUST TYPICAL LIBERAL NAME CALLING AND INSULTS WHEN WE DISAGREE. If Canadians are outraged about this Goverment then explain to me why isn't Dion and the Libs running high in the polls ? I guarantee you the only question if your going to answer any is this about Dion and the LIbs, because it's just TYPICAL LEFT WING.

John

P.S. I'm not going to answer any of your question if you don't answer all of my question thank you !!

Karen said...

John, I'm not sure what you want me to answer at this point.

The cost of implementing Kyoto? I'm not an economist my friend, so I can not lay that out. Baird presented a disingenuous report, that did not take into account any of the off sets, either through carbon trading or new industry. My point is, it would be foolish of any politician to promote a plan that would drive the economy into the ground...beyond foolish. I suspect there is a working paper on the cost's, but we are not in an election and the Lib's aren't in power, so, to put forward a costed policy isn't in keeping with being the opposition. Did the con's do that when they were in opposition? Think what you like about Dion, but he is not a stupid man.

Should he be doing better in the polls? Yes, I think so and I have concerns over that. I think that the attack ads Harper has put out are childish, but I think they have had an impact. They've painted Dion as someone he's not and people are judging him accordingly.

Obviously, my hope is when he becomes better known, that opinion will change, though I know that will be tough in Quebec.

I don't in fact think that Canadians are outraged at this government. I don't think they are paying attention though. I also think they see Harper as a PC'er, which of course he is not. That said though, his polls should be higher if he is doing everything right. He is in power now and still, with all that power, he is unable to bring people in. Canadians still do not trust him enough to give him a majority, (thank goodness, ;).

I'm a Liberal and a liberal John. I have also voted PC and NDP in various elections at different levels of government. Throughout my life, I've voted on policy. Harper's vision of Canada is not mine, so accordingly, I will never support him. Being in Ontario, I have no love for Flaherty, Baird or Clement and what they did here. I do think that they are a good fit for the current government, so kudo's to Harper for keeping them in the mix and making them prominent. The down side of course, in urban Ontario, they play very poorly.

I'm not sure if I've answered you. I try to be objective, through my obvious bias. I've not heard you give any credit to the Lib's. In terms of how Martin brought the country back economically, that deserves some kudo's, no?

1)First why did the ice age disappear was it because global warming airplanes cars etc etc...?

2)Second did you know that during the cretaceous period the planet was 10 degrees warmer then it is today is it because again planes cars etc etc...?

3) I gave you my age ( 40 )and since you said that you are older. Then you must know that in the 70's the same people were all saying that we were going towards another ice age. What do you say to about that ?

Sigh. I have no intention of answering your questions, which have been answered ad nauseum, by scientists who are qualified to do so.

The debate, that never was valid in the first place, is over.

You want to put your faith in unqualified, PR experts posing as scientists who are funded by energy companies, be my guest.

Climate change is real, carbon emmissions are contributing to it and we can do something about. You want to ignore it, fine. Explain your position to your grandchildren.
