Shaking Hands With the Devil...Again

Having watched some recent interviews with Romeo Dallaire and Roy Dupuis, it's clear that the recent movie based on Dallaire's book, have reawakened many wounds for Dallaire.
Interestingly enough, Dupuis too has been affected in a way that he wasn't expecting, but took on with sincerity.
In the news tonight, is a report: Dallaire, a former Canadian general who now sits in the Senate, is set to take the stand Tuesday at the landmark war crimes trial of Desire Munyaneza.
Once again, this man will have to face demons and the horror that he has spent his life since that time, fighting. (Partisan shot...he's one of the Senators that the con's decry.)
It's difficult, I suspect for all of us, to even imagine what this man has faced, yet he's ready to face it again. He faced it with the movie, whereupon he reflected that he had no idea how close it would bring him to the time, reliving it.

"What I know for sure", is that I don't possess that kind of courage. Having never faced what he did and it's impossible to compare, but I will say straight up, the difficulties I've faced in my life are not anything I want to face again.
That he will bear witness, again, speaks to a remarkable man.
I hope to gain the courage to see the movie. If anyone has, I'd love to hear your impressions.

Dallaire was a miserable failure as a General, simply watching as hundreds of thousands died.

He is good at marketing his 'pain' though - and lots of people eat that crap right up.

But, but, but...

Half a million dead people = Failure.

Dear sir above me. You are a piece of excrement.

Brave Anon! You are who? Someone who has served? Someone who was there? Someone who saw and coped with what he has.

No, you hide behind, "anon". Dallaire put and continues to put, himself out there, in spite of the pain.

Yeah, he failed and admits that, but to be trite, "it is better to have tried and failed, than to have never tried at all".

If you were there, talk to me. If you weren't, speak to yourself.

Sorry KNB but i couldn't resist i had to answer anon post 8:40 pm.

"Dallaire was a miserable failure as a General, simply watching as hundreds of thousands died."

Anon of the post 8:40 who ever you are!! The real failure was the UN
that the Liberals love so much.

I haven't seen the latest movie with Roy Dupuis yet,but I have seen the movie Hotel Rwanda. I now its just a movie anon post 8:40 pm, but i suggest to you and anyone else who hasn't seen the movie to go and see it. Romeo Dallaire had his hands tied by the UN!!

KNB:

"(Partisan shot...he's one of the Senators that the con's decry.)"

I'm a Conservative I haven't seen or heard any Conservatives decry
the senator on this issue !!! I have heard and seen blaming the UN
and the powers at be at that time.

If Canada would have sent troops to fight those people (Criminals)even with the UN approval the left would have gone nuts with chants "BRING OUR TROOPS HOME" you know it and i know it you can't deny this its fact !!! So any blame has to go to the UN and the powers at be back then. Not the general !!!

Well said, for this man has seen things that no human should have to see, and he has carried it with dignity and courage instead of trying to pretend it never happened or other forms of running away. What that says about the moral character of this man is no small thing, and that he continues to try to aid justice so long afterwards despite the clear cost to his own peace of mind and soul is IMHO an example of some of the best within human nature just as the horrors in Rwanda that he witnessed showed the worst.

Really well said Scotian. You summed up the essence of the man.

John, I obviously would not have written the post if I was unaware of what happened. Thanks for trying to educate me, but really, don't bother.

As to the Senate, every time the right call's them names, they include Dallaire.

Think man.

Oh, and every time you suggest the Lib's are anti military, you include Dallaire.

You do not even realise how ridiculous you are.

Did you know, there are Green Party members serving in Afghanistan, in the actual Army?

Your arguments on the right are ridiculous and have reduced us, we as a nation, into "baby talk". That would be repetition without knowledge.

Congrat's on that.

"John, I obviously would not have written the post if I was unaware of what happened. Thanks for trying to educate me, but really, don't bother."

When was the last time you have criticized the UN,that you and the rest of the left loves so much on this issue?

"As to the Senate, every time the right call's them names, they include Dallaire."

I will continue to criticize our unelected
uncountable senate. It has nothing to do with Dallaire. The senate can bloc all legislation that goes to them, and don't have to answer for it,because they don't have to worry about being elected in 4 years time thats the problem we have with the senate not individuals.
I don't blame Dallaire for accepting the senate seat.I respect him for what he did or try to do in Rwanda.

I think you should be doing the thinking knb!

"Oh,and every time you suggest the Lib's are anti military, you include Dallaire."
No I don't include Dallaire.I include the
people that kept cutting the military budget to the bare bone. I include the people that send our military to war under equipped.I include the people who try to pressure business not to have military decals on their store windows.
The people who are anti military are the libs yes the left the same thing. Do I believe everyone no of course not and you know it.
I don't know anyone on the right that is anti military.
Wise up knb and smell the coffee.

"You do not even realise how ridiculous you are."
Sorry but the one who is ridiculous is you the Libs just look what
is happening to your party these days, over one by-election.

"Did you know, there are Green Party members serving in Afghanistan, in the actual Army?"

So what! I repeat the people who are anti military are the ones on the left libs same thing. No I'm not saying everyone.

"Your arguments on the right are ridiculous and have reduced us, we as a nation, into "baby talk". That would be repetition without knowledge."

When you people talk this way you sound like sour losers.

OMG! I detest how the far right play up this stuff. As in the US, where they're staffed by ChickenHawks, our own right wing cretins play Rambo because it makes them feel good - powerful. Damn, I wish they could spend decades living with a horribly wounded and disabled war vet. He won't have anything to do with their BS rhetoric. He knows better. Every day reminds him of it and, unlike them, he has no place else to go. Harpo the Warrior? Please, I'm not sure he actually doesn't wear silk dainties.

The Mound of Sound said...

One other point. Isn't it curious how those who do show up for the killing and the dying - not the rear echolon Rambos - cant' stomach the far right. They can't. I know it, I know them. I know a great many of them.

It is interesting MoS.

It's remarkable to me that so many on the right believe that every service man/woman is a conservative. Their narrow world view is disturbing.
