Can't Be! Not Possible!

I just read that the Liberals have tripled their donations over the same time last year. How can that be?

Very reliable (unnamed) sources continue to 'leak' to the press, well, just last week in fact, that the party is broke. Broke I tell you! So, that must be true right?

From that anonymous(e) source, journalists extrapolate and well, write articles to support that comment. Funny that, because you know, people read those articles and if you were to ask someone with a passing interest in politics whether or not the Liberals had enough money to fight an election, most people would do the big....phffft...' Absolutely Not'! Their depth of knowledge? Zero.

Anyway, this is great news and it shouldn't stop here. I know times are tough for many, but if you're still willing and able, go here and do what you can.

Oh, and don't buy the doom. As much as I wish it was not the case, money does make a difference. Ideas are more important, but it does take money to get them out there.

Here's the beginning of an albeit tough, but earnest start.

Give if you can and join if you're willing.

A little like that "Isotope" tracker map that you link to - it's full of H1N1 stories....
Inaccuracies everywhere it would seem...

Give me a solution then.

The bar isn't raised by criticism without an alternative.

btw- didn't realise the isotope link included swine flu news. Inaccurate? True. Good to get news out there? Also true.

LOL, too busy pissing on everything to be constructive. It's so boring...

Anyways. This quarter should put an end to the old theme of us being broke. In concert, we're also seeing a much bigger base to draw from, the membership uptick is actually pretty amazing. Another noteworthy point, it's not like this new fundraising database is the culprit, that baby is still largely a work in progress at this point.

If we really want to kill that meme, I would strongly recommend a few positive ads to flex some muscle. A clearer signal I can't think of.

I'll let Chantal Herbert give you one...

According to a massive CBC rolling poll, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff's threat to set in motion a summer election has cost him the lead in voting intentions. The only saving grace for the Liberals was that his threat turned out to be empty.

For 36 crucial hours, no one could provide a coherent script for his session finale. His MPs were in the dark; his spin doctors were offering up contradictory explanations. Ignatieff looked like he was making up his lines as he went along.

The Liberals cannot expect a rookie politician to turn into a seasoned leader overnight. The bigger problem is that there could be more at work in their tepid poll numbers than just a mishandled parliamentary showdown. In central Canada, Ignatieff is fast losing the momentum generated by his successful honeymoon.

On that score, his last visit to Montreal earlier this month was a triumph for the Quebec Liberal organization and a bust for the leader.

It is a paradox that a party that prides itself on being led by a public intellectual is coming up with so few genuinely fresh or challenging ideas.

Not so sure that the Libs are losing sleep over href="http://www.canoe.com/sections/medias2/sondage.jpg">Quebec.

To read Hebert, you'd believe that the Liberal numbers had fallen into the low teens.

That wasn't a solution that you provided via Hebert. She wasn't supplying a solution she was making comments. So, cwtf, you did not supply a solution, not even vicariously through Hebert as she didn't have one or any. You just did more of what Steve V said:
"LOL, too busy pissing on everything to be constructive."

If it weren't for the $1,250 tax deductible limit, I would donate more. That rule should be changed.

Hebert - just opinion writing. She never offers solutions. It's just opinion.

And we all know that as far as opinions are concerned, we can all take them or leave them.

I'm also waiting for a solution KNB - I guess we'll be waiting a long time.

Chantal Hebert is Canada's most astute political columnist bar none. She's not always right, but right more often than most.

My concern is that it is getting less and less clear what the Liberal Party stands for in people's minds. I'm worried that we're starting to lose the allegiance of many Canadian voters who used to vote Liberal religiously.
