Dave Batters ~ 1969 - 2009
Statement from the Batters family:
"The family of Dave Batters is grieving the sudden loss of their beloved husband, son and brother, who sadly chose to take his own life at home in Regina on Monday, June 29. Last fall, Dave courageously made public his battle with depression and anxiety when he chose not to run for re-election as the Member of Parliament for Palliser. He entered treatment and his family and friends hoped he would overcome his illness. Tragically, this was not to be.
"Dave and Denise's family greatly appreciates the support of their friends during this extremely difficult time and requests that the media respect their privacy. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date."
I just can't imagine how difficult this must be for the family.
Condolences.

So, so sad and so, so young.
Our hearts are with the family.
In the "old days", no one would mention the "took his own life" part, but I'm very pleased that the family is revealing this, as it will be an important factor for others who have family members struggling with depression, and for groups seeking assistance and awareness for mental health issues. Good for them for their gift to us of their openness.
I thought of that too anon.
He showed courage in announcing his condition and his family obviously share that sentiment.
It also prevents misinformation, gossip and stories.
True enough.
I just took a boo over at Blogging Tories - only one blog mentioned it. They are all so full of hatred and partisanship they can't even take a moment to remember him.

Mind your own business...for once.
Anon - if the BT's want privacy they shouldn't be on a public forum.
