Isotope crisis 'sexy' ??

If you've held yourself back today, be prepared to be disgusted by this Minister, the one that Harper thought should be kept in place.

As they drive around Victoria, chatting with their driver, Ms. Raitt and Ms. MacDonnell discuss their unsuccessful efforts to get Ms. Aglukkaq to contribute a quote to a news release on the isotope crisis.
------
They’re terrified of the issues,” said Ms. Raitt.
“You know what? Good. Because when we win on this, we get all the credit. I’m ready to roll the dice on this. This is an easy one. You know what solves this problem? Money. And if it’s just about money, we’ll figure it out. It’s not a moral issue.”
-----

Ms. MacDonnell said the isotope issue is hard to control, “because it’s confusing to a lot of people.”“But it’s sexy,” says Ms. Raitt. “Radioactive leaks. Cancer.”
“Nuclear contamination,” says Ms. MacDonnell.
“But it’s only about money,” say Ms. Raitt.

The article is here.

I'll have more to say later.

Update:

The Prime Minister's Office has reviewed transcripts of an as-yet unpublished audiotape that the Opposition says is fatal to Raitt's political career, confirmed Harper's communications director Kory Teneycke.
Asked if it is fair to conclude that Raitt still has the prime minister's confidence, Teneycke said in an email reply "That would be accurate."

The irony is she has not even come close to fixing the problem.

Raitt's comments were totally insensitive, but I think the real story here is that Michael Ignaiteff decided to prop up the Harper government because he was threatened with retaliation by the CEOs of three major banks from the Canadian Council of Chief Executives.

Good to know where he's getting his marching orders!

Yes, of course it is sillyanon/biff.

The source of that story is who, exactly? Oh yes, Lisa Raitt...

You keep trying there.

Anon @ 855 I don't know what the heck you're talking about.

ottlib, she and the gov't are more concerned with optics, fake ones, than the real problem.

Something tells me that Aglukkaq, didn't really know what she was getting into with these folks and Raitt is custom made for them.

"Anon @ 855 I don't know what the heck you're talking about."

Read further down in the Chronicle Herald story. Raitt tells the persons driving her and MacDonnell around a story about a CCCE meeting in January. There's a non-denial denial from John McCallum, but I for one would like to know more. There were apparently about a hundred at this meeting.

Anon, you are delusional.

Read the whole article, get a good feel for this Ministers politcal instincts, then tell me seriously that her account of what happened at a meeting she wasn't at even makes a whit of sense.

McCallum said it well. Can you imagine any of the Pres's standing up and saying that?

Trust me, it wouldn't happen.

Brings back Gerry Ritz and finding people dying of listeriosis.

Health is a big joke to these guys. Ritz is still there.

I wonder if Raitt was jealous of the new health minister - who seems to be liked from all sides of the House.

Anon 8:55 - health is much more important than what you're trying to convey. Your attempt at changing the channel is a complete failure.
